Tokyo, 28 August 2026 – The Honorable Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Hon. Auapaau Muilpola Aloitafua Mulipola led Samoa’s delegation at the 54th General Assembly and 88th Council of Meeting of the Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union (APPU) held in Tokyo Japan, from 24 to 27 August 2026.
The delegation included two Members of Parliament, Afioga Faleomavaega Titimaea Tafua, Afioga Taituave Lafaitele Valoaga Taaitiiti Iona, Deputy Clerk Ms. Maiava Olive Karene-Eneliko and Manager of Research Division of the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Elleria Novella Solofa Aiono.
The theme for this year’s meeting was “Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation for Maintaining a Free and Open Economic Order and Strengthening Regional Supply Chain Resilience” and has provided an important opportunity for parliamentarians and officials from the participating nations across the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen cooperation, exchange experiences and continue dialogues aimed at achieving and preserving freedom and democracy as well as securing peace and prosperity.
The Embassy with representatives from the Samoan Community residing in Japan had the opportunity to host the Honorable Speaker and his delegation for dinner in Tokyo and provided support for the duration of their visit and meetings.
