National Day Event “Beautiful Samoa” Featured Traditional Dances and the Spectacular Fire Knife Performance.

The Independent State of Samoa participated in the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai under the theme “Empowering Lives,” presenting the nation’s rich natural environment, vibrant culture, and ongoing efforts toward building a sustainable society. Inside the pavilion, visitors experienced the warmth of Samoan hospitality and its cultural diversity through displays of traditional crafts and local products such as coconut oil goods, woven textiles, and food items.

In addition to these exhibits, digital images and video presentations highlighted Samoa’s forward-looking initiatives in women and youth empowerment, environmental conservation, and the sustainable use of marine resources. The pavilion’s composition vividly conveyed the spirit of harmony between people and nature that defines Samoa’s identity and vision for the future.

On June 8, 2025, Samoa celebrated its National Day with the special event “Beautiful Samoa.” The celebration began with opening remarks delivered by the Vice Commissioner General of the 2025 World Exposition in Japan, MISAWA Yasushi, and the Ambassador of Samoa to Japan, H.E. Faalavaau Perina J. Sila-Tualaulelei. The program featured traditional dances including Siva and Māuluulu, the iconic men’s dance Fa‘ataupati, and the dynamic Fire Knife Dance, captivating audiences with their energy and artistry. A workshop inviting visitors to try the Fire Knife Dance themselves further deepened cultural exchange and engagement.

Samoa, the first independent nation in the South Pacific since 1962, continues to value both tradition and progress, with a strong commitment to education and community development. Through this participation, the country proudly shared with the world its vision as a nation that “nurtures people and lives in harmony with nature.” The Government of Samoa extends its heartfelt appreciation to all visitors for their warm support and encouragement throughout the Expo.
